What started as a simple couple’s session at the beautiful Roger Williams Botanical Gardens and Park in Rhode Island quickly turned into something much more meaningful.

Victoria arrived thinking it was just a relaxed photo session—an afternoon walk through the gardens, surrounded by summer blooms and soft greenery. But behind the scenes, Jamie had reached out to me ahead of time with a different plan. He wanted to turn the session into a surprise proposal.

We kept this low-key garden engagement session relaxed, walking through the gardens and stopping at a few scenic spots. Surrounded by lush greenery, soft purples, and vibrant florals around white garden structures, it felt calm, romantic, and perfect for an intimate moment.

At just the right spot, Jamie dropped down on one knee. Victoria’s reaction was pure joy—hands over her mouth, laughter, happy tears, and that beautiful moment when everything suddenly feels real. It was emotional, sweet, and completely them.

After she said yes, we turned the rest of the session into a full engagement shoot, letting them soak in the moment together. There were hugs, kisses, and that just-engaged glow that you can’t fake. You could feel the excitement between them with every step through the gardens.

Sessions like this are always so special to photograph because they hold so much emotion. One minute it’s a casual walk through the park, and the next it’s the start of a whole new chapter.

Victoria and Jamie, thank you for letting me be part of such a meaningful moment. I’m so excited for everything ahead of you both.

Roger Williams Botanical Gardens is one of the most beautiful locations for a proposal or engagement session in Providence, RI. With its lush greenery, seasonal blooms, and quiet pathways, it’s perfect for couples looking for a romantic and intimate setting.

Tips for Planning a Meaningful Proposal

1. Choose a place that feels like you.
It doesn’t have to be extravagant. A quiet park, your favorite coffee spot, or a place you love walking together often feels more meaningful than a big production.

    2. Think about the light and the timing.
Soft morning light or golden hour just before sunset creates the most romantic atmosphere for photos.

      3. Keep it simple.
You don’t need an elaborate setup. A heartfelt moment between the two of you is what truly matters.

      4. Have a loose plan.
Know where you’ll stand, how you’ll approach the moment, and where the photographer will be. A little planning helps everything feel smooth and natural.

      5. Consider celebrating right after.
Plan a dinner, a picnic, or a meet-up with friends and family so you can soak in the excitement together.
